This is the first volume of this noted sale:106 items; most of the ones illustrated are floral design, city or village Persian rugs;… 30 of them are silk rugs. Include a sheet with prices realized. And prices back then! Persian saddle bags went for $150 and the most expensive rug: a 15 x 12 silk Heriz went for $19,000. The illustrations are often of only a quarter of the rug (although since most of the rugs are floral design ones, the rest of the rug can be gotten by flipping the quarter). Book.

Eldred Co. of East Dennis, Massachusetts on Thursday, July 18 and Friday, July 19, 2013, comprising 1,083 lots and featuring the celebrated Benno Brenninkmeyer collection of rare scientific instruments, whaling and scrimshaw artifacts, ship models, Napoleonic prisoner-of-war bone work, and fine and scarce maritime books. The Brenninkmeyer collection of bone ship models was, at the time of the sale, widely recognized as the largest collection of its type ever to come to auction, with the next-largest holdings residing at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis. Index of artists includes James Edward Buttersworth, Antonio Jacobsen, John Stobart, Anton Otto Fischer, Reynolds Beal, Frederic Schiller Cozzens, Margaret Fitzhugh Browne, William Pierce Stubbs, Clarkson Frederick Stanfield, Charles Henry Gifford, Gordon Grant, James Hamilton, Eric Erskine Campbell Tufnell, James Gale Tyler, after J.M.W. Turner, after Antoine Roux, and many others. Notable book lots include Ledyard's 1783 Journal of Captain Cook's Last Voyage to the Pacific Ocean (first publication and first American edition) and a Hawaiian-printed William Ellis Journal.
