First UK edition. x, 241pp. This book is one of a series of studies on African economic and political development from the Center for International Studies, Massachusetts Institute of Technology. It was published as the movement for independence swept over the continent of Africa, and takes a hard look at problems and policies. The author identifies the problems of African political and economic development, discusses their implications for Western policy and puts forth proposals for dealing with them. The book is bound in the original brown cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine and gold stamped publisher's emblem on the front board. The book is in excellent condition with bumping to the bottom rear corner. The contents are tight and clean with no inscription. The clipped dustwrapper has shelf wear with light soiling and slight fading to the spine. The spine ends and bottom rear corner are bumped and there is a small stain at the bottom of the spine.
