Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the development and life cycle of various parasitic flatworms, known as Trematodes, revealing fascinating insights into their complex biology. The author combines historical observations with detailed anatomical studies to trace the transformation of Trematode embryos into intermediate larval stages, known as Cercariae, and ultimately into their adult forms. Through detailed descriptions and illustrations, the book provides a comprehensive understanding of the intricate developmental processes and adaptations exhibited by these parasites. By unraveling the mysteries surrounding Trematode development, this book contributes significantly to our knowledge of their life cycles and opens new avenues for further research in parasitology and evolutionary biology. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…

Text is printed with hand-set Joanna type with Hermann Zapf's Optima for display on mould-made Zerkall-Bütten Book White and Cream paper. Deluxe edition includes a second state of the wood engraving "Mission Foxglove", numbered signed and dated by Wagener, housed in stiff black wrap folder. _____CONDITION: All components are in fine {"as new") condition. No issues whatsoever._____DISCUSSION: Richard Wagener is one of the foremost wood engravers, noted for his perfectionist work and fine detail. What differentiates his work are his abstract wood engravings incorporating color. The 95 wood engravings span nearly 40 years of Wagener's career, showing the progression and maturity in his work, encompassing all periods and styles of his career, from landscapes to abstract wood engravings incorporating color. The chronological sequence of images is interwoven with commentary by both the artist and other contributors and each engraving includes specific documentation showing creation date, title and descriptive details. All of the wood engravings are printed from the original blocks by Jan Elsted, one of the most skilled printers of wood engravings, faithfully reproducing the extraordinary detail in Wagener's work. Simply put, this book is a tour de force of exceptional wood engraving and it is a "must' for any private press collector of this art form.______NOTE: Because of the size and weight of this edition, domestic shipping cost with UPS Ground is $35. International shipping cost to Canada and the United Kingdom using USPS International Priority Mail is $100. Shipping cost to more distant locations may incur additional cost. Arch. Anat. Phys., 1852. - Berlin, Verlag von Veit et Comp., 1852, 8°, pp.543-569, 3 lith. Taf., Broschur. Wernich, Hirsch VI, p.161 The German professor of anatomy Guido Richard Wagener (1822-1896) brought a huge and important music collection together. This collection was sold in 1901 by his heir on favourable terms to Alfred Wotquenne, then librarian of the Brussels conservatory. Among the 9.000 titles of the collection Wagener are lots of interesting and unique pieces. The forty autographs belong to the most important scores, among them works by the sons of J. S. Bach as Carl Philipp Emanuel, Johann Christoph Friedrich and Wilhelm Friedemann, beside works of Benda, Graun and Quantz. There are also about five hundred manuscript, containing several unique copies. The printed music is very interesting with very rare copies. Chamber music from the 18tth century is strongly represented. Beside the importance for the historical performance practice and the artistic-scientific research the collection fascinates by the bibliophile binding, mostly dating from the 19th century. The Wagener collection is the largest and most important foreign music collection ever to be bought in Belgium.…

Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Octavo. (56)pp. Engravings throughout by Wagener, including as frontispiece, are printed in black and glimmering red. Wagener's ability to translate the splashing, fluid form of calligraphy to the geometrical impositions of wood engraving is a remarkable feat and altogether fitting for Bringhurst's poems on the gestures of language. They dovetail especially well with his works that incorporate Japanese kanji. Bound in half black leather with gray paper edged in red over boards and with gilt-stamped leather label to spine. Extra engraving held in paper folio, and this housed together with the book in a slipcase. Fine. Hardcover. Condition: New. First and Limited Edition. One of 70 copies, folio size, 60 text pp. with 26 plates, in chemise and slipcase, signed by Richard Wagener. Richard Wagener (b. 1944) is an American wood engraver who creates gorgeous and detailed landscape scenes as well as abstract engravings. He was been creating wood engravings for over fourty years, with his work being published not only under his own imprint of Mixolydian Editions, but also by Peter Koch, David Pascoe (Nawakum Press), and The Book Club of California. He has won numerous awards and his work is with well over one hundred institutions. This work was his first published artist book (his first publication following his Master's thesis), with Wagener creating both the artwork as well as writing the text. It had the distinction of being included in the exhibit "Artists' Books in the Modern Era, 1870 - 2000" at the Legion of Honor (San Francisco). Bestiaries have a long history, having originated in the ancient world and becoming extremely popular in the Middle Ages. "Animals tumble, soar, and race through the pages of the bestiary. Abounding with vibrant and fascinating images, the bestiary brought real and fantastical creatures to life for readers" (n.b., quote from the web site of the Getty Center discussing a 2019 exhibit of bestiaries). The beasts are often presented alphabetically, as is the case here. What makes this alphabestiatry special is the pairing of Wagener's prose poems with each beast; when we were fortunate to speak with Richard about this work, he shared that the poems are not intended to be descriptions of the beast, or provide a moral lesson (which was often the case with the medieval works) but rather a hint at the thoughts and emotions evoked by the creature depicted. Issued in an edition of only seventy copies, our search of OCLC locates thirty copies with institutions, leaving only fourty for private ownership. As of this writing we see two other copies online; our copy was acquired directly from Wagener, hence is truly "as new", never having been previously owned. ___DESCRIPTION: Bound in quarter red leather with grey laid paper over boards, printed on the front board is the title and wood engraving of the initial "beast", the armadillo, this surrounded by a rectagular border, title in gilt on the spine, matching grey laid endpapers, title page with a small abstract engraving by Wagener in red, the section for each beast also with a small abstract engraving in red onto which the initial capital has been printed, this followed by the short prose poem, and this by the wood-engraved creature set upon a larger abstract engraving, these both in black and printed on the rectos only; Ehrhardt type on Zerkall paper, binding large folio size (15" by 8 7/8"), unpaginated with 60 unnumbered text pages and 26 unnumbered leaves of plates, this no. 56 of the 70 copies, signed by Wagener in pencil at the colophon. The volume encased in a chemise covered in a darker grey laid paper, both housed in a slipcase covered in changable silk of red with gold highlights, grey paper spine label with grey lettering (the slipcase measuring 15 3/8" by 9 1/8"). ___CONDITION: Volume is fine, the boards clean, straight corners without rubbing, a strong, square text block with solid hinges, the interior is clean and bright, and entirely free of prior owner markings; clean, crisp, entirely as new. The chemise also fine, clean and without blemish. The slipcase fine overall, strong and sturdy, utterly without wear; there are two very small, very light spots on the paper spine label, which we presume occurred during production as the book has never before been owned. A truly stunning production by a renowned artist. ___POSTAGE: International customers, please note the following: (i) additional postage may apply as the standard does not always cover costs, please inquire for details; and (ii) any taxes, duty, or tariffs charged by your country will, of necessity, be your responsibility. ___Swan's Fine Books is pleased to be a member of the ABAA, ILAB, and IOBA and we stand behind every book we sell. Wagener's images of nature - his stately Sierra trees, stark peaks and rocky crags - and his urban architectural monuments - the Pantages Theater and the Griffith Observatory - combine to make this work a deeply personal record of distinctive California locations" (Victoria Dailey).…

"John Muir reminds us that a life lived without great rocky outcrops and ageless tress as a part of one's native landscape would be a life deprived of one of the greatest resources of the sublime. In the Sierra Nevada there live trees as old as Sumerian phonographic script and Egypt's Bronze Age Middle Kingdom-- there for you to lean against and smell.alive.sap oozing from the cores of the oldest living friends we have. Richard Wagener's engravings capture an essential quality of that friendship--nearness and an austere clarity" (from Koch's introduction). Narrow folio (7 in. x 12 in.)
