Hardcover. Condition: Good. 206 pages. dj wornStephen Fleming has come a long way since he was embroiled in the marijuana s candal which rocked New Zealand cricket back in the mid-90s. Maturity as both a player and as skipper has brought rich rewards for New Zealand's longest-serving , and most successful, test match captain. A stint with Middlesex in 2001 laid t he foundations for a successful re-evaluation of his batting methods where the i nability to convert half-centuries to centuries did no justice to his quality. B ut after a breakout innings of 134 not out to steer New Zealand to a classy Worl d Cup victory over South Africa, Fleming confirmed his greater batting consisten cy with a career-highest 274 not out against Sri Lanka in the first test of thei r 2003 series. He has now scored 4671 runs in 75 tests and taken 114 catches. In his autobiography Fleming will talk about the highs and lows of his time in the New Zealand team; about how he was given the captaincy at an early age and how he has learned to cope with the associated pressures. The Stephen Fleming story has been as eagerly awaited as any modern New Zealand sports biography.…

Paperback. Condition: Good. 279 pages. clean tidy copyMagical book about Bert Sutcliffe, the magical batsman who put New Zealand crick et on the map. This book is a tale of two men: one who became the first hero of New Zealand cricket, and one whose lifelong dream was to write his biography. ert Sutcliffe, a stout-hearted giant of the post-war cricketing world, never did get to see his long-awaited story hit the press. He died in 2001 aged 77, leavi ng behind a trail of re-written record books. And what records those were: wheth er it's the stories about Sutcliffe's brace of centuries for Otago against the M CC in 1947, about his two triple centuries in the Plunket Shield, his heart-wren ching partnership with Blair at Johannesburg, or his heroics at Kolkata during h is comeback tour, there were no shortage of highlights. tand Rod Nye's desire to write Sutcliffe's biography. Quite apart from the sheer enormity of Sutcliffe's influence on New Zealand cricket and his massive popula rity as a player, a full biography of his life and career had been long overdue. Tragically, Nye, who had been nearing the completion of his life's mission, die d in 2004, leaving behind a treasure trove of research on the remarkable batsman , much of it never before heard. In The Last Everyday Hero, highly regarded cric keting writer and commentator Richard Boock joins the talents of these two men a nd completes the story. Many of those who have contributed to this book have als o since departed; it is New Zealand cricket's field of dreams.…
