Woods Hole and the Fish and Wildlife Service ran the studies: iron accumulation in sea water and bottom sediment, effects on plankton and bottom fauna, water transparency, and circulation in the bight traced by drift bottles. Alfred Redfield, of the Redfield ratio, was the Woods Hole author and its associate director at the time. An early document in the long argument over ocean dumping. Contents: Preface; The Sport Fishery of the New York Bight; The Behavior of Waste upon Discharge into the Sea; The Biological Effects of Waste Discharge; Evidence on the Accumulation of Wastes Following Prolonged Barging Operations; The Circulation of Water in the New York Bight; Conclusions; References.…

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the dynamics of sexual differentiation in species with particular focus on the intersexuality and environmental sex determination in relation to temperature in fish, reptiles, and amphibians. This deviation from the typical genetic sex determination exposes the flexibility and adaptability of sex differentiation in animals, especially in relation to environmental cues. The author explores the idea that temperature is not the only factor influencing sex determination in these species, as hormones, genes, and other environmental conditions also play important roles. This broadens our understanding of sex determination as a process that extends beyond genetics alone into physiological and ecological realms. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
