Paperback. Condition: Fair. Drugs. Extortion. Slavery. Organized crime is fighting for a hold on Inspector John Rebus's peaceful Scotland. And when Rebus rescues a young Bosnian girl forced into prostitution, he breaks a policeman's golden rule to never get personally involved in a case. Add to that the hunt for an elderly Nazi accused of slaughtering an entire French village, and Rebus wonders just how evil humans can be. Until his own daughter is mortally injured as a gangland warning for him to back off. Then even a dedicated cop like Rebus might make a deal with the devil to find the culprit. Not for justice. For revenge. A chilling glimpse into the darkest extremes of human cruelty, The Hanging Garden is a page-turning literary thriller. This ninth entry in Ian Rankin's award-winning series confirms his reputation as a writer of rare and lasting gifts.…

Paperback. Condition: Very Good. American political life is presently in a death spiral, drowning in a sea of increasingly complex laws. There is an assault against the unalienable rights of life, liberty and property, orchestrated by the top-down god-state. Can we take Occam's razor, rooted in the proactive, and cut out all the reactive elements? Can we cut out the metastasizing cancer of distrust, and restore the health of trust and simplicity throughout our common political life? Here, there are four ideas for consideration: 1.First, the six pillars of honest politics start with our unique national identity and foundation - unalienable rights given by the Creator that belong to all people equally - life, liberty, property and thus, the power to pursue happiness. Under the second unalienable right, this means that the intrinsic nature of the Gospel advances religious, political and economic liberty for all people equally. 2.Second, these pillars serve a level playing field for all ideas to be heard equally, and by definition, are pre-partisan in nature. 3.Third, these pillars serve checks and balances on power in government, according to the consent of the governed. 4.And fourth is the sharp application of Occam's razor, to reduce needless redundancies, or to keep it simple. Here I propose a model for a simplified state constitution and likewise for the U.S. Constitution, to cut state laws and the U.S. Code by well over 99 percent.…
