VG + Pocket edition which combines the first two volumes (1928) of Nelson's 'Teaching of History' series but lacks the general editor's preface (John Buchan). vii + 512pp. Undated but orig owner's inscr on fly-leaf is dated Dec 1936. Brick-red boards clean and undamaged except for sl rubbing of corners. Spine lightly sunned and has v sl wear to ends and 2-3 small marks near foot. Gold lettering quite bright. Internally excellent with no foxing and nice clean edges (T/E olive) and good, tight binding. A very attractive little volume.

Originally published in 2 volumes this combined volume is in the Nelson Classics series and has the subtitle From the Earliest Times to 1924. 508 pages followed by 5-page publisher's catalogue. Terracotta cloth with gold lettering. 8 maps. Slight rubbing at the spne ends and the corners are lightly bumped. Bright internally although there are some pencil annotations and an ownership inscription on the fly-leaf. The illustrated dustwrapper is complete but is a little rubbed and ragged around the edges. Quite scarce.

Donald MacAlister, 1st Baronet of Tarbet KCB FRSE (17 May 1854 - 15 January 1934) was a Scottish physician who was Principal and Vice-Chancellor and, later, Chancellor of the University of Glasgow. He was a member of the Cambridge Apostles intellectual secret society, from 1876. From 1904 to 1931 he was President of the General Medical Council. Clean and tight with a gift inscription to the Rev Pollock Morrison on fep No foxing but fep toned and minor marks on boards as seen. See scans.

The title label is very lightly browned and has a tiny chip at its top edge. Internally very bright. There is a presentation inscription by Charles Morgan (writer of one of the essays) on the title page to Princess Bibesco, daughter of Herbert Asquith. Inscribed by Author(s).
