Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Oversized & heavy hardcover, L + 598pp + 12 pages of glossy b&w photos, map endpapers, NOT ex-library. Book is clean and bright throughout with unmarked text, free of inscriptions and stamps. Binding shows light wear. Boards with short creases to edges. -- If the…re had been all-news television channels in 1956, viewers around the world would have been glued to their sets between October 23 and November 4. This book tells the story of the Hungarian Revolution in 120 original documents, ranging from the minutes of the first meeting of Khrushchev with Hungarian bosses after Stalin's death in 1953 to Yeltsin's declaration made in 1992. Other documents include letters from Yuri Andropov, Soviet Ambassador in Budapest during and after the revolt. The great majority of the material appears in English for the first time, and almost all come from archives that were inaccessible until the 1990s. "There is no publication, in any language, that would even approach the thoroughness, reliability, and novelty of this monumental work. Unlike all the other documentary collection, The 1956 Hungarian Revolution is based mainly on recently opened original sources in the Hungarian, Soviet and US archives." -- Contents: Preface by Árpád Göncz; Foreword by Charles Gati; Introductory Essay by Timothy Garton Ash; Editors' Introduction and Acknowledgments; Acronyms and Abbreviations; Chronology of Events; 1. Hungary Before the Revolution [Introduction; Documents No 1-24]; 2. From Demonstrations to Revolution [Introduction; Documents No 25-81]; 3. Hungary in the Aftermath [Introduction; Documents No 82-118]; Documentary Epilogue [Documents No 119-120]; Main Actors; Organizations; Bibliography; Index.

Condition: Sehr gut. ISBN 3506758365 Sprache: Deutsch Gewicht in Gramm: 550 282, [32] S. Buch. Condition: Neu. Neuware - The authors of this edited volume address the hidden attraction that existed between the extremes of left and right, and of internationalism and nationalism under the decades of communist dictatorship in Eastern Europe. One might suppose that under the suppressive regimes based on leftist ideology… and internationalism their right-wing opponents would have been defeated and ultimately removed. These essays, on the other hand, recount the itinerary of survival and revival of 'right-wing' thought and activities under communist dictatorship. Resistance and accommodation are explored in the various phases from the Stalinist era to the demise of the Soviet Bloc, with the continuity provided by tacit or concealed right-wing discourses receiving particular consideration. The Eastern European right, both in its conservative and fascist version, centered on nationalism, a legitimizing factor that increased with the downfall of the regimes, and the authors thus accord nationalism special attention. Two documentary sources for these essays that stand out are files of the security services and the exceptionally rich Oral History Archive compiled by The 1956 Institute in Budapest.
