Laidler's 'The Pre-Victorian Products of the Cape Press, 1796 - 1837', published by the South African Library Association in 1935. It is a chronological bibliography with annotations of all civil products of the Cape Press, and lists more than 800 items. The association issued it in mimeographed form as a tentative move 'to afford colleagues and collectors opportunity to note omissions and mistakes'. As they remark: What bibliography is without them? That was in 1935. Mistakes and all, it is still the only standard work".
