Purkyne's texts mainly in German, one French, one Czech, also a Russian summary at end, introductory and editorial text in English. Purkyne (or Purkinje as usually anglicised) (1787-1869) was a pioneer Czech physiologist/ neurologist especially concerned wiht what would now be called physiological psychology', especially in relation to perception. He is now remembered almost soley by the 'Purkinje effect' (colour sensitivity shifts to blue end of spectrum as light level declines) but this collection of hithero unpublished manuscript material shows that his contribution was far broader than this. Signed by second editor.
