Condition: Good. 1897. No Edition Remarks. 174 pages. No dust jacket. Half bound brown leather with brown marbled paper covered boards. Gilt lettering. Black and white pictorial frontispiece. Clean pages with light tanning and mild foxing throughout. More pronounced to free endpapers and pastedowns. Pencil markings to free endpapers. Rough cut pages with top textblock edge dyed gilt. Binding remains firm. Boards have mild edge-wear with slight rubbing to surfaces and bumping to corners. Gilt lettering is bright and clear. Moderate sunning to spine and edges with crushing to spine ends. Minor peeling to spine and corners. Visible wear marks to boards.

Cloth. Condition: Very Good. Scarce 1890 1st (and almost certainly only) edition of this retelling of "legends, traditions and superstitions of Westchester" Co., New York. Crisp and VG in its dark-green cloth, with bright gilt-titling along the front panel and spine. Small, neat name ("Dr. Wm. L. Wells") written lightly at the front free endpaper and also at the title page. Half a dozen very narrow, small worm-holes burrowed through along the fore-edge (but showing almost no wear to any of the pages). Octavo, chapter headings include" "Mystery of a Pelham Farmhouse", "Bedford Courtship", "The Haunted Brook", "The Spirit Lady", "The Devil's Gardener", "The Wood Famine", "The Treasure Hunters", etc.
