Hardcover. Condition: Fine. xii, 103 pages 64 plates 35 cm. in Italian. Italian-language catalogue, written in The Fifties, dedicated to the Roman portraits, still mostly unpublished at the time of publication, conserved in the Lateran Profane Museum. The catalogue, fruit of a reordering of the discoveries, which permitted to carry out new surveys, represented in those years the first systematic collection on the subject. The sculptures, classified according to period style and typology - portraits of women and men -, are exposed through accurate critical cards, containing the basic technical data, such as subject, size, information on radiocarbon and on the state of conservation. Following there is a detailed description of the subjects and the iconographic motifs. The examination also proposes comparisons with other similar works, outlining concordances and differences in style, as well as hypothesis for the identification of the represented characters. Among the sculptures there are also funerary stelae, busts and portraits of emperors. At the end of each card is listed a bibliography of reference for anyone who wants to examine in depth the study of the works. Black and white tables out of the text show the 118 exhibits at the end of the volume.
