Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Othar Holmboe (illustrator). Please see photos for condition details. Hardcover, green cloth boards decorated on front and spine. Exterior shows some spotting to the cloth as well sunning of the spine. Corners are still sharp and the edges show only minor wear. The internal binding is good and text pages are tight. There are no signatures or bookplates, no library markings, nothing torn or loose. The backside of the front end page does show very faint residue of something that was penciled there at one point and then later erased. No other markings found in the book.

Translated from the Norwegian by Laura E. Poulsson. Half-tone illustrations by Othar Holmroe (illustrator). A perfect family read-aloud book. A thoroughly delightful story of an orphaned country girl in Norway who makes her way in the world tending goats in the mountains for her gentle benefactor. The scenes of the countryside and the relationships of the animals with each other and with their herders are so refreshing. It is a life few children growing up in the 21st century would have any knowledge of but for this story written by a native of Norway in 1903. Previous owner's name on title page.
