Porter warns of the dangers in lusting for material gain and--… after the bruising struggle over the Compromise of 1850-- "the blind and bigoted and passionate rage of party spirit." He denounces slavery as a great evil, but argues that abolitionists who would ignore the law create even greater evils. OCLC records a number of institutional locations for this item.
