Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Number 194 of 550 copies printed (under the direction of Frederic Warde) on Whatman hand-made paper by Enschede en Zonen, Haarlem, in the fifteenth-century type of Peter Schoeffer in that firm's collection. Turquiose balloon linen with gilt spine lettering. Top and tail of spine a li…ttle worn. Ownership signature and slight spotting to front endpaper. A very good copy. The colophon describes the type as being probably the oldest in the Collection Typographique (having come into the possession of Enschede in 1768 and previous to that having been kept in Schoeffer's family for 250 years). The colophon, which was presumably written by Warde, then makes an odd error in stating that Peter Schoeffer was Gutenberg's (rather than Fust's) son-in-law. Withal, a literary and typographic gem.
