Spiller ist in der Geschichte der Physik besonders bekannt durch seine Bemühungen, "alle physikalischen Erscheinungen aus einem Princip zu erklären und das Phantom der Imponderabilien zu verscheuchen". Die Resultate seiner diesbezüglichen, bereits 1855 begonnenen und 1876 zum Abschluß gebrachten Untersuchungen sind niedergelegt in seinem "Die Urkraft des Weltalls" (Berlin 1876) betitelten Hauptwerk. - Aus dem Inhalt des vorliegenden Bandes: Die Sonne; Die Planeten; Die Monde; Die Kometen; Sternschnuppen und Meteorsteine; Asteroiden; Höhere Weltkörpersysteme; u.a.
