Jahrhundert. Als junger Verwaltungsjurist machte Hans Simons in der Weimarer Republik eine steile Karriere, bis er 1933 wegen seiner Zugehörigkeit zur SPD aus dem Staatsdienst entlassen wurde und in die USA emigrierte, wo er Politikwissenschaft lehrte und das Office of Strategic Services sowie andere für die »Feindwahrnehmung« und Nachkriegsplanung zuständige Regierungsbehörden beriet. 1947 kehrte er als US-Staatsbürger nach Deutschland zurück und war als Verbindungsoffizier der Amerikaner beim Parlamentarischen Rat an der Ausgestaltung des Grundgesetzes beteiligt. Nach dieser Aufbauhilfe für die westdeutsche Demokratie leitete Simons zehn Jahre lang die für ihre Unterstützung emigrierter Wissenschaftler berühmte New School. In den sechziger Jahren war er im Auftrag der Ford Foundation als bildungspolitischer Berater in Asien und Lateinamerika tätig. 379 Seiten, gebunden (Beiträge zur Geschichte des 20.
