Color illustrated, with the originals highlighted with gold, the pictorial frontispiece, select maps and details are throughout are accompanied by a Map Index and Bibliography. Text descriptions include details of contemporary political, economic, and historic knowledge. 511 pp. A handy reference to the extent of the known world of the mid-17th century, as well as an homage to the artistry of map production from the highly respected European printing center of Amsterdam. Dutch Cartographer JOAN BLAEU (1596-1673) came from a family of influential cartographers, makers of globes and atlases, who were associated with the Dutch East India Company.
