No date on copyright page. 300 pages, followed by 1 page of advertisements. 32 black and white pictorial plates and 3 maps. Overall good condition. Binding is strong and tight. Some light rubbing to the corners and spine. Spine is toned. No major bumping. Pages are toned and foxed, but free of any marks or writing. A previous owner has written their name neatly on the front free endpaper (not Lovejoy's), no other markings to be found. Overall good condition. This book is from the collection of Thomas Lovejoy. Dr. Lovejoy was an influential ecologist, field biologist, and activist; former head of the Amazon Biodiversity Center, World Wildlife Fund, and advisor to the United Nations and Smithsonian Institution. He is credited with introducing the term 'biological diversity' to the mainstream environmental movement. In addition, he was a passionate collector of books on the natural world.
