Peter Pendrey (illustrator). Very good condition overall. Original Folio Society cloth binding is clean and firm, with light, even age toning and a few small spots of discoloration typical of mid-century cloth. The decorative black band and spine titling remain sharp and well defined. Corners are lightly rubbed, spine ends gently softened, but the binding is tight and square. Internally, the paper is clean and unmarked, with uniform age toning and no loose pages. No dust jacket, as issued for this Folio Society edition. Translated by Alec Brown and illustrated throughout with striking wood-cut illustrations by Peter Pendrey. A finely produced mid-century Folio Society volume, printed and bound in Great Britain, presenting one of Gorki's major novels in an elegant illustrated format. A handsome and collectible example from the Folio Society's classic period, well suited to collectors of illustrated books, Russian literature in translation, or Folio Society editions.

Hardcover book. Published by New American library not clear what year. Very collectible. Fantastic book. About the book >.>.> More than a century ago, a young Easterner namedFrancis Parkman set out to explore life in the uncivilizedWest. With his friend and companion Quincy Adams Shaw,he traveled up the Oregon Trail to the camps of thePawnee and the Sioux. This book is the fascinating journalof that hazardous experience. It is an authentic record oflife on the trail, an eyewitness account of the Mormonsand outlaws, trappers and Indians, pioneers and adven-turers who tried to conquer the frontier back in the dayswhen America was young. Historian Henry Steele Com-mager wrote: ?The Oregon Trail appeared in 1849, andwith its publication Parkman was launched upon hiscareer as a storyteller without peer in American letters. It is the picturesqueness, the racy vigor, the poeticeloquence, the youthful excitement, that give The OregonTrail its enduring appeal, recreating for us, as perhapsdoes no other book in our literature,
