Poetry and essays from prominent Russian writers of the early 20th Century, brought together in the name of Futurist literary group, Liren'. The wrappers were designed by Maria Sinyakova (1890-1984), a Ukrainian artist from Kharkiv who was a notable figure in the avant-garde sphere and collaborator of the futurist group. She was expelled from the Artists' Union for 'bowing to Western art'. It is believed that Velimir Khlebnikov was in love with Sinyakova and dedicated many poems to her. Hellyer 281.

First and only edition of the important Russian Futurist anthology, which contains the first publication of Khlebnikov's "Our Foundation" ("Nasha osnova"), a key manifesto of his mature theory of "zaum'" or "beyonsense" language. Other contents include Nikolai Aseev's poem "Voina" ("War"), poetry by Vladimir Mayakovsky, Pasternak, Elena Guro. Regarding the group and its eponymous imprint, Vladimir Markov notes: "The birth of Lyroon seems to have taken place during the summer of 1914 in Krasnaya Polyana, a little place near Kharkov where the family of Sinyakov lived. The three Sinyakov sisters became closely connected with the futurist movement: Pasternak, Aseyev, and Khlebnikov were in love with them at different times. Aseyev married one of them, Oksana; Khlebnikov wrote about them in his poems. One of them, Maria, an artist, illustrated several futurist publications" (Russian Futurism, 244ff). While early contributors of the group's publications included Kruchenykh and Burliuk, it increasingly began to gravitate towards Khlebnikov's influence; by 1920, in the present collection, the group had also attracted Boris Pasternak, then still in his Futurist phase.
