Manuscript / Paper Collectible
Taylor is noticed in his brother's entry in the Oxford DNB. 2pp, 12mo. On first leaf of bifolium, the second leaf carrying the address ('R. S. MacKenzie Esqr / Chesterfield'), and a seal in black wax, beneath which is a corner of the leaf, cut away in opening the letter, the leaf also being annotated 'James Taylor of Bakewell / author of "What is Money?". In good condition, lightly aged, with thin strip of brown paper mount along inner edge of second leaf. Good signature, with expansive flourish, 'Jas Taylor'. He begins by thanking MacKenzie for his 'kind communication', informing him that 'Our Friend Mr Gardener has not yet received the last months numbers of the Farmers Mag[azin]e. and I fear therefore not had an opportunity of seeing the article alluded to'. He proposes to go 'by this days Coach to Leicester' on his way to London. 'When I reach Town, which I expect will be on Wednesday Evening I shall of course obtain the Mag[azin]e', and when he returns he will 'thankfully avail' himself of MacKenzie's 'obliging offer of the Report of the Evidence in the B[?] Charters, unless I have an opportunity of getting a Copy in Town'. A postscript concerns 'Pamphlets' which he is finally sending.
