Questa tendenza, definita da Giuseppe Bartolucci Postavanguardia, ovvero Teatro analitico esistenziale, è destinata però ad avere breve vita. Alle soglie del nuovo decennio, infatti, sembrano già affiorare nuove ipotesi di ricerca, segnate da un crescente interesse per la spettacolarità metropolitana e postmoderna.
