Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book offers a unique glimpse into the lives of men who served in the First Regiment of Ohio Volunteer Infantry during the Spanish-American War. The author meticulously compiles a roster of soldiers, detailing their ranks, residences, and notable events during their service. Through these detailed records, the reader can reconstruct a picture of the regiment's composition and the challenges faced by these men during their wartime experience. The excerpt reveals insights into the daily life of the soldiers, including their transfers, furloughs, illnesses, and even instances of desertion and court-martial. This book goes beyond a mere listing of names, revealing the human cost of war and highlighting the varied experiences of individuals within the broader context of military service in the late 19th century. This work is a valuable resource for historians, genealogists, and anyone interested in exploring the realities of the Spanish-American War through the lens of individual soldiers. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…

Documents include an appointment as Quartermaster from Edwin Stanton, "Directions for Enlisting Volunteer Forces in Ohio (1861)," orders from Gen. Seth Williams (1863), a letter from the mayor of Toledo excusing Russell from reporting to duty in Annapolis (1864), a letter from Russell about his medical conditions (1864), and various other letters. He later received a federal staff appointment as Captain and Assistant Quartermaster, dated March 12, 1864. Bowling Green State University holds Russell's papers from 1863-1864, including forms and correspondence from his service as Assistant Quartermaster of the 2nd Brigade, 1st Division, 11th Army Corps. Archive of official correspondence from Capt. Warren Russell, Quartermaster of the 2nd Ohio Volunteer Infantry.
