Paperback. Condition: New. Freud said dreams were the "royal road" to the unconscious, and then along came a superhighway: psychedelics. Personally, we can access the psychedelic experience, but Frank Ogden shepherded over a thousand people's experiences. What is presented is the howling unconscious released from the normal chem…ical constraints that restrict it. Written in the simple, but vivid style Frank popularized in his bestselling, The Last Book You'll Ever Read, Shamanic Graffiti presents an alternative history of the brain and it's functions: shamanism. Giving real world examples, the book finishes-up by exploring the theories of two pre-eminent psychedelic theoreticians, Dr. Timothy Leary and Dr. Stan Grof and looks at the future of psychedelic drugs.

Add to basketA well-preserved copy of the 1937 edition of this guide for US servicemen, the front cover with the contemporary ownership signature of one Lieutenant Slichbury and the ink stamp of the Office of the Naval Attache at the American Embassy in Peking. Ogden's guide was published in several editions throughout the 1930s and all are…now scarce, with WorldCat recording these in just four locations. Intended for soldiers making a flying visit to the city, this handbook provides essential information on places to stay, currency, entertainment, bazaars, and eateries, as well as an action-packed seven-day recommended itinerary and an eight-page bilingual index. Souvenir hunters are reminded that "the Marine Quartermaster is not in a position to crate boxes, rugs, furniture or other goods. Many army and navy people come to Peking with the idea, either that they will be exempted from paying the export taxes or that someone in this office will be able to advise and tell them some plan whereby such taxes can be evaded. Neither is correct" (p. 23). Institutional holdings: Oregon (1932 edition); Stanford and Navy Department Library (1935 edition); Minnesota (this edition). Octavo, pp. [ii], 36. With 3 blank leaves at rear headed "notes". Original cream textured card wrappers, gatherings wire-stitched and glued into wrappers as issued, front cover lettered in black. Covers bright and a little creased, internally clean, final leaf chipped at foot. A near-fine copy.
