The Photo Album was inspired by the color snapshots the photographer had processed in a Kodak lab. The images are "conceptually sophisticated but unpretentious landscapes, portraits, and interiors" with "the casual, buoyant quality of a tourist's snapshots. But their concision and consistency are hardly artless (Stephen Shore and Luigi Ghirri both come to mind). Shemtov's genuine appreciation for the ordinary allows his work to transcend its period and join the ranks of the timeless."
