This book an annotated re-issue of Francis Place s 1822 Illustrations and Proofs of the Principles of Population . In addition to Place s text Himes added unpublished letters of Place on birth Control, Coleridge's criticisms of Malthus' views on birth control, and some of his own critical and textual notes. This first edition was signed over to a colleague at Colgate University via a note on the overleaf, which reads To Robbie from Norman, April 1955, and it was treated gently in the recipient s personal collection ever since. A hardcover book in blue cloth with gold lettering, it has a few exterior stains and a slightly mottled edge on the front cover, and is otherwise in excellent condition. The binding, pages, hinges and joints are strong and clean. Inscribed by Author(s).
