Der Generaldirektor der WHO, Dr. Tedros Adhanon Ghebreyesus, zeigt auf, dass nach der COVID-19-Pandemie die psychische Gesundheit einen schrecklichen Tribut gefordert hat. Er wies darauf hin, dass die Inzidenzrate von Depressionen im ersten Jahr der Pandemie um 25 % gestiegen sei, obwohl bereits fast eine Milliarde Menschen an psychischen Störungen litten. Psychische Störungen sind also eine Gefahr für die Menschen und ihre sozialen und wirtschaftlichen Auswirkungen sind enorm. Das bedeutet, dass Maßnahmen ergriffen werden müssen, um die an einer psychischen Störung leidenden Menschen zu betreuen und zu schützen.In der Antike galten Menschen mit körperlichen oder geistigen Behinderungen als unrein und von den Göttern verflucht. Glücklicherweise ist sich die Menschheit seit 1971 bewusst, dass geistig Behinderte ein vollwertiges menschliches Wesen sind, dessen Rechte es zu schützen gilt.
