Originally issued in two Oxford volumes in 1887 and 1895, the work presents critically edited texts accompanied by manuscript variants, historical introductions, textual notes, corrections, additions, and an index. Its materials include important chronological and historiographical compositions such as the Scroll of Fasting, Seder Olam traditions, Sherira Gaon's historical epistle, Sefer Yuasin, Arabic historical material, and accounts associated with David Reubeni. Neubauer's method reflects the nineteenth-century Wissenschaft des Judentums: manuscripts are compared systematically in order to establish reliable texts and illuminate textual transmission. The edition consequently provides essential evidence for reconstructing medieval Jewish chronology, communal history, rabbinic authority, migration, persecution, and intellectual genealogy. Although subsequent scholarship has revised some readings and interpretations, Neubauer's documentary achievement remains foundational, particularly for researchers working with medieval Hebrew historiography and manuscript traditions. Since this specific chapter of Isaiah deals with the Messiah and the Messianic Age, this work is a very interesting find since it is composed of forgotten, unknown or even infamous manuscripts and Jewish sources, which are sometimes polemical against Christianity, sometimes not.

Orig. cloth binding. 414,18 pp. 29x22 cm. - Kitab al-Usul (The Book of Root…s), the dictionary, was arranged into 22 chapters - one for each letter of the Hebrew alphabet.[20] The dictionary included more than 2,000 roots, nearly all of them triliteral. Less than five percent of the roots have more than three letters, and they were added as appendix in each chapter. Definitions for the words were derived from the Talmud, Tanakh or other classical Jewish works, as well as similar Arabic and Aramaic words. This approach was controversial and new in Hebrew scholarship.[20] Ibn Janah defended his method by pointing to precedents in the Talmud as well as previous works by Jewish writers in Babylonia and North Africa, which all used examples from other languages to define Hebrew words.
