A ces données…biologiques s'ajoutent des données étiopathogéniques sur l'hypothyroïdie primaire acquise de l'adulte qui fait l'objet de notre travail. En effet, dès 1912, les travaux d'Hashimoto confirmés en 1937 par Jaffe d'une part et Bastenie d'autre part, laissaient entrevoir une filiation entre la thyroïdite lymphomateuse et le myxoedème dit spontané de l'adulte. De même, la thyroïdite auto-immune de Bastenie a semblé prendre rang parmi les causes de l'hypothyroïdie primaire de l'adulte. Du reste, dès 1957, l'étape immunologique de l'étude des affections thyroïdiennes renforçait cette hypothèse.
