Es entstand aus der Pflichtvorlesung "Baudynarnik", die ich seit 197 6 fuer Stu- denten der konstruktiven Fachrich…tung des Bauingenieurwesens an der Universitaet Han- nover halte, also ftir Hoerer nach dem Vorexamen mit "ueblichen" Kenntnissen der Statik, Mechanik und Mathematik. Trotz dieser Voraussetzungen werden einleitend die Schwin- gungen von Einfreiheitsgradmodellen und Staeben recht ausfUhrlieh behandelt. Einerseits bilden sie die Grundlage des hier behandelten Teilgebietes der Dynamik, und anderer- seits zeigt die Erfahrung, dass diese Grundlagen nicht staendig verftigbar sind. Die Bezeichnung des Buches als "Einfuehrung" ergab sich aus der Stoffbeschraenkung auf determinierte Vorgaenge, lineares dynamisches Verhalten und viskose oder strukturelle Daempfung. Damit sind z. B. Erdbebenvorgaenge, deren Modeliierung der Statistik beduer- fen, nicht behandelt. Von der Aufgabenstellung bis zur Loesung wird der Weg in einzelnen Schritten dargelegt: Aus realen Systemen werden unter Be cksichtigung der Aufgabenstellung vereinfachte physikalische Modelle und daraus mathematische Modelle gebildet. Fuer diese Modelle werden analytische und numerische Loesungswege aufgezeigt, wobei verschiedene mathe- matische Methoden sich als nuetzlich erweisen. Auf Schwierigkeiten der Modellbildung wird dabei hingewiesen; Anwendungsgrenzen, Vor- und Nachteile einzelner Modellie- rungsarten werden genannt. Die Loesungen werden schliesslich physikalisch gedeutet und die Simulation dynamischer Vorgaenge wird beschrieben. Das erste Kapitel enthaelt einleitend die Schwingungsursachen und -probleme. They were se lected in order to cover the state of the art of knowledge in fault-detection and dam age assessment, system identification, signal processing, mathematical and physical modelling and applications of techniques such as fuzzy logic and neural networks. The emphasis was placed on the exploitation and understanding of nonlinearity arising from structural or material faults. Figure 1 indicates the range of topics covered in the workshop. Since no unique or general approach yet exists for treating nonlinearity in the field of safety evaluation, many of the topics presented were problem specific. In order to assist the reader in selecting the material of primary interest a matrix of the topics covered by each participant is shown in Table 1. This table relates the authors to the subject matter, providing a guide through the diverse range of topics presented at the workshop.
