Hardcover. Condition: Fair. No Jacket. (Ref. O2) Half green leather bound to marbled effect paper covered boards. Rear board is detached and front board is loose with cracked hinge. Rubbing to extremities, worn corners, edges. Head and heel of spine worn, with some short tears, a couple of which have been repaired. Scuffing, fading to rear and front surface. Cup ring visible on rear board. Heavily foxed prelims and slighlty more moderately throughout.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. 32mo (3 1/4" by 5 3/8"), green embossed leather binding with gilt lettering, small holes in spine, a color fold-out map (17 1/2" by 21 1/2") with county populations in 1840.

Early issue (the first was 1831). Hand-colored engraved folding map, 15 3/4 x 13 1/4 inches. Folding to 5 x 3 inches into original green gilt-decorated roan binding. Provenance: William Fitch (contemporary ownership signatures on verso of map). Mounted on the inside front cover of the binding is the 1830 Census data for the state, recording the total population of the state at 937,903. At bottom of the map are Profiles of the Ohio and Erie Canal, and the Miami Canal. 73 counties are delineated, the most populated then being Hamilton, Columbiana, and Muskingum. Light rubbing to binding, a few short separations along folds, light wear at sheet edges.

Square folio, pp. [4], 27, [5]; 96 hand-colored maps on 70 sheets; a worn copy with joints amateurishly repaired, front free endpaper and flyleaf with creases and tears in the margins, title page with short tear in gutter, gilt on cover dull, spine scuffed and with amateur repairs at top and bottom; internally with the maps uniformly clean but occasionally with a tear or two entering from the margins or folds (no loss); original brown cloth lettered in gilt on upper cover. A good and complete copy. Includes full page city maps of Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., Greenbrier, West Virginia, Cincinnati, St. Louis, and New Orleans. Contained in a new stiff card clamshell box.
