Add to basket(2), 14, (1) pp. Contemporary, cloth-bound wrappers. Hinges with ca 1 cm tears at head and tail of spine. Title-leaf with "Millbank Prison" neatly lettered in ink along with the inscription "London, 1849". A well-kept copy of this scarce title. Compilation of rules applied at Millbank Prison, possibly related to the implication…of the Millbank Prison Act of 1848. The site at Millbank was purchased by Jeremy Bentham on behalf of the crown for the purpose of erecting a panopticon prison as envisioned by Bentham. The panopticon plan was later abandoned and the prison opened in 1816, only to be closed in 1890.
