Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. In the midst of a changing American landscape, this book analyzes the plight of surplus rural youth. The author argues that the hardships faced by young people in the early 20th century arose not only from the Great Depression, but rather were the result of broader changes in society. The book examines key trends such as the aging population, resource depletion, technological advancement, urbanization, and wealth disparity. The author demonstrates how these forces, in addition to the economic downturn, contributed to the rise in unemployment among rural youth. The lack of opportunities on the farm led to an exodus to the cities, but urban areas were ill-equipped to absorb the surplus of young workers. Drawing on case studies and interviews, the book provides a detailed look at the challenges and frustrations faced by rural youth during a time of great economic and social change. It underscores the importance of understanding the historical roots of youth unemployment and calls for proactive measures to address the issue.
