Publisher's brown pebbled cloth, stamped gilt lettering, approximately 5 1/4 x 7 3/4 inches, index, xv + 304 pp, no illustrations. Hardcover, near fine. Minor shelf wear, dust darkening on top edge of textblock, otherwise tight, clean, paper crisp, unmarked and apparently never read. An attempt to reconcile the empirical and speculative aspects of thought, the absolute realism of Hegel and the transfigured realism of Herbert Spencer, and science and religion. Quite thorough, he discusses matter and its properties, atomic theory, the laws of motion and gravity, evolution and Charles Darwin, etc. And the corresponding immanence of the World-Energy. He concludes, "The World-Energy is God. Its self-conservation is the eternal process of Creation. Evolution is the temporal aspect of this process. The self-unfolding of God culminates in man. (Bryant) was an instructor of psychology and ethics in the St. Louis normal and high school; a lecturer at the St. Louis kindergarten and normal schools, and at the St. Louis Society of Pedagogy.
