The language used in the book is slightly old fashioned as are some of the references as the book was written in the 60s. The author, however, exhibits a thorough understanding of the culture and history of both Rome and modern day Europe. Contents in 13 Chapters: The Home, Furniture, The Household, Matrimony, Birth and Childhood, Clothing, Gods, Daily Life, Social Life, Amusements, Travel, Street Life, and Burial.
