Soft cover. Condition: Fine. Frederick McCarthy was employed by the Australian Museum for 44 years and was the curator of the Anthropology department from 1941-1964. As early as 1938, McCarthy was responsive to the threat to aboriginal rock art and engravings. With his colleague, Sydney University's Professor Shellshear, he pushed for state legislation to protect and preserve Aboriginal sites. Despite continuing efforts, it was not until the 1970s that the commencement of legal protection of Aboriginal Heritage was realised. This is one of his most recognizable works, the result of his many years of study and personal insights into this seldom seen artifact of a lost time.
