Spines have thick strap-cords and burnished bands, gold lettering and bars at head and foot. Large blocky volume numbers in gold, as well. Marbled paper over boards shows shelfwear and random scuffs from a century and a half. Bindings tight and attractive, but overall not shiny and polished. Each volume dated 1839. Illustrated throughout with engraved plates (lots of them). Pages clean although there is some inoffensive foxing on the backs of the plates. Text entirely in French. Orlando Furioso was written in the first half of the 16th century and was quickly available throughout Europe, translated from the original Italian into many languages.
