Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book examines the correspondence between Cardinal Mercier and the German military government occupying Belgium during the First World War. The Cardinal's letters protested the violence, deportations, and other abuses committed by the German occupiers, while also seeking to protect the interests of his diocese. The book offers a unique glimpse into the challenges faced by religious leaders during times of war and oppression, and the ways in which they sought to provide spiritual and moral guidance to their communities. The author's insightful commentary sheds light on the complex relationship between church and state, the tension between patriotism and obedience, and the importance of resistance to tyranny. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. Paperback. Condition: Poor. Verkleuring.
