Condition: guter Zustand. Feder in Braun, grau und braun laviert, über schwarzem Stift und Kohle, auf grau-grünem Papier. 39,4:54,2 cm. Verso: Kosacke zu Pferd. Pinsel in Grau, grau laviert, über schwarzem Stift mit Spuren von Weißhöhung. Der Künstler war Schüler seines Vaters Jakob G. (1773-1843) und von 1824-1827 bei Joseph Mössmer (1780-1845) an der Wiener Akademie. Großen Einfluss übten auf ihn die Landschaften von Paulus Potter, Philip Wouwerman, Karel Dujarjdin u.a. aus. Er reiste viel in den österreichischen Alpenländern, meist mit seinem Schwager Joseph Höger (1801-1877). 1827 besuchte er Dresden, 1828 München. Bis 1830 gestaltete er vor allem naturalistische Landschaften, danach spezialisierte er sich auf Jagd- und Tierkampfszenen. Seit 1836 war er Mitglied der Wiener Akademie der bildenden Künste. 1839 und im folgenden Jahr hielt er sich in München auf 1838 und 1843 in Oberitalien und Venedig. Gauermann gilt als einer der Bahnbrecher österreichischer Landschaftsmalerei in der Wiedergabe atmosphärischer Stimmungs- und Beleuchtungseffekte- Durch seine mit Wild bevölkerten Wald- und Berglandschaften war er der Modelandschafter und bedeutendste Tiermaler der vormärzlichen Romantik. …
