Condition: Nuevo. La división de las leyes de Moisés en religiosas, civiles y criminales se halla indicada por este mismo Legislador. Toda la ley mosaica está encerrada en este pequeño número de preceptos, y es la misma que se contiene en el Pentateuco, dividido en cinco partes. Esta obra, que se escribió inmediatamente en lengua hebrea, con caracteres fenicios, de los que se servían únicamente los judíos antes de la cautividad de Babilonia, es la explicación de los preceptos enunciados en el Decálogo, y fijados por Moisés sobre las tablas de piedra que se conservaron después en un arca construida a este fin por orden del mismo Dios. No fue solamente Moisés el órgano de la voluntad de Dios, sino que fue también el Juez supremo de la nación, y después de haber desempeñado todas estas funciones por espacio de muchos años.
