Che cosa, invece, ci permette di distinguerli? Innanzitutto la follia, il delirio non sono una religione con un solo fedele, una religione con un sol…o membro, perché l'essenza stessa della religione e dei culti è l'unione (religo) e la condivisione, laddove ciò che contraddistingue la follia è la frammentazione e la frattura intra ed inter-psichica. Assimilare misticismo e follia non è blasfemo, è semplicemente sbagliato. Ma in questo errore, in questa confusione non sono incorsi e non incorrono soltanto coloro che sono pregiudizialmente contrari al religioso, ma anche coloro che, per scelta ideologica e di vita, si sentono e dichiarano credenti. Analoghe confusioni ed improprie sovrapposizioni vengono effettuate anche a proposito di magia e sacralità che vengono il più delle volte senza discrimine annoverati tra i fenomeni c.d. soprannaturali. L'omologazione del misticismo e del paranormale alla follia è dovuta in parte anche alla carenza di criteri di analisi differenziale tra questi fenomeni, a pregiudizi storicamente determinati e lungamente sedimentati verso ogni forma di diversità, alla paura che sempre hanno ingenerato l'incomprensibile e l'ignoto. In questo lavoro, utilizzando gli apporti delle varie scienze umane alla psicologia, abbiamo individuato ed esaminato dei possibili indicatori atti a stabilire dei criteri di analisi differenziale tra sacro, paranormale e follia.
