Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book is a Roman comedy that presents a delightful and insightful satire on themes of love, deception, and the nature of human relationships. Penned by the renowned playwright Plautus, it explores these themes through the tale of a young man named Dinarchus who falls head over heels in love with a courtesan named Phronesium. The play delves into the complex dynamics of their relationship, including the power struggles, misunderstandings, and the financial and emotional entanglements that arise when love and money intertwine. The author's clever use of language and witty dialogue brings the characters to life, each with their own motivations and desires. Through their interactions, the play explores the universal human experiences of love, loss, and the search for fulfillment. Plautus's sharp observations on human nature and his ability to weave a captivating tale make this book an enduring classic of Roman literature. As readers follow the twists and turns of Dinarchus and Phronesium's relationship, they will find themselves entertained and challenged by the play's timeless themes and insights into the human condition. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book is an intoxicating journey into the raucous and irreverent world of Plautus's "The Pot of Gold," a masterpiece of Roman comedy. Written during a vibrant era of conquest and cultural exchange, it skewers the greed and folly of human nature with timeless wit and bawdy humor, offering a glimpse into the vibrant street life and social mores of ancient Rome. Through the antics of miserly Euclio and a cast of unforgettable characters, the author explores themes of avarice, familial bonds, and the pursuit of wealth. Its profound insights into human behavior and the enduring power of laughter make it an essential read for anyone interested in the roots of Western literature and the timeless appeal of comic storytelling. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. Contemporary vellum binding, 8vo (19 x 13 cm). The vellum binding is somewhat stained and appears to have been professionally cleaned; the narrow spine bears a faint, handwritten title in red pencil (barely distracting), and the rear cover is slightly warped and creased. Small contemporary marginal note on the inside front cover; small tear-out on the title page (likely the removal of an old ownership inscription). The paper is slightly browned in places, with minor staining on a few pages. Overall, still in quite good and attractive condition.
