In der Chirurgie und Zahnmedizin müssen komplexe Bewegungsabläufe teilweise unter extremen Stressbedingungen ausgeführt werden. Diese Anforderungen sind mit denen des Leistungssports vergleichbar. Es lag somit der Gedan…ke nahe, ein im Leistungssport etabliertes Trainingsverfahren zur Bewegungsoptimierung in die Ausbildung von Medizinern zu transferieren. In einem mehrjährigen, interdisziplinären Forschungsprojekt der Universitäten Heidelberg, Greifswald und Kà ln wurde daher das Mentale Training vom Sport in die Chirurgie und Zahnmedizin übertragen. Um die Effektivität dieses Verfahrens für die medizinische Ausbildung plausibel zu dokumentieren, werden vom Autor die Grundlagen des Mentalen Trainings ausführlich und differenziert vorgestellt. Dabei stehen insbesondere die empirischen Belege und die verschiedenen, zum Teil eigenen theoretischen Erklärungsansätze für die lern- und leistungssteigernden Effekte des Mentalen Trainings bei sportlichen Bewegungen im Vordergrund. Da allerdings chirurgische und zahnmedizinische Eingriffe neben hohen motorischen in starkem MaÃe auch kognitive Anforderungen an den Mediziner stellen, wird zu Beginn des Buches die mentale Repräsentation des Wissens, d.h. die interne Wissensrepräsentation des menschlichen Systems der Informationsverarbeitung erläutert. AnschlieÃend wird dann ausführlich auf die Differenzierung zwischen der mentalen Repräsentation einer Bewegung und einer Handlung eingegangen. Dabei stellt der Autor dar, dass die mentale Handlungsrepräsentation des Mediziners, die den chirurgischen bzw. zahnmedizinischen Eingriff steuert, beim Mentalen Training in der Medizin eine zentrale Stellung einnimmt. Der Theorieteil schlieÃt mit einer detaillierten Instruktion zur Anwendung des Mentalen Trainings in der Medizin. Im empirischen Teil geht der Autor ausführlich auf verschiedene Evaluationsstudien in der Chirurgie und Zahnmedizin ein. In diesen Studien konnten erstmals eindeutige Belege für die lern- und leistungssteigernde Wirkung dieses innovativen Trainingsverfahrens für die Medizin gefunden werden. Im letzten Kapitel des Buches werden die Ergebnisse ausführlich diskutiert und vor allem Ãberlegungen zur Integration des Mentalen Trainings in die medizinische Ausbildung dargestellt.
