A sound copy with secure inner hinges. There is a little damping in the gutter at the front of the book near the bottom. At the rear the damping at the gutter is heavy. Throughout much of the text block there is no damping, but it grows towards the rear of the book. Collates complete with the frontis portrait and two other illustrations. David P. Mapes (1798-1890) was born in Coxsackie, New York and had several ventures in New York and Pennsylvania before he moved to the Wisconsin Territory in 1844 and helped found Ripon, WI.
