Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Fodder and Pasture Plants; by Geo. H. Clark, B.S.A. and M. Oscar Malte, PhD.; with water colour illustrations by Norman Criddle; published by direction of The Honourable Martin Burrell, Minister of Agriculture, Dominion of Canada Department of Agriculture, Ottawa, 1913. Signed by Clark on the first free endpaper that is detached but included in the front of the book. From the Preface: When we consider that about one-third of the improved land in Canada is under fodder and forage crops, the importance of disseminating information respecting fodder and pasture plants must be apparent to all. The aim of the book being to present only well established facts and practices, no attempt has been made to advance or support new or questionable ideas or theories. The main interest and value of this book rests with the wonderful water colours by the artist Norman Criddle. Norman Criddle, born in 1875 in Addlestone, Surrey, England, died in 1933 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, was an entomologist active in the early development of control strategies for agriculturally important grasshoppers (Insecta: Orthoptera) in the prairie croplands of western North America, as well as a naturalist-artist. Gifted with considerable artistic ability, Criddle illustrated a number of agricultural books; his and Dr. James Fletcher's Fodder and Pasture Plants and Farm Weeds of Canada are especially noteworthy. This book bound in buckram is in very good condition. The covers are discoloured and worn along the edges, but the book is sturdy and sound. The coloured plates, the highlight of this book, are in fine condition. Signed by Author(s).
