Some toning, soiling, and staining to edges; light moisture staining to early and late leaves; strong toning to ffep's verso, front flyleaf, rear flyleaf, and rfep's recto; strong foxing to frontispiece's blank recto; frontispiece's tissue guard well toned; mostly occasional light foxing to interior pages with a few scattered stains. With publisher's four page advertising section at rear. Late 19th century green ownership label of "D.M. Montgomery" [Pleasant Ridge, Greene County, Alabama merchant and Civil War veteran David Milton Montgomery, 1841-1899] at center of front pastedown with his pencil signature on opposing front free endpaper recto. Binding is still firm. Double-column text. A good copy. Book now presented in a trimmed clear Dura-Lar (polyester film) sheet forming a dj which modestly enhances exterior appearance and shelf presence.
