Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. Dogs, Past and Present: An Interdisciplinary Perspective gathers contributions from scholars from a variety of disciplines to provide a comprehensive assessment of the importance of dogs through history. Over the last decades, countless studies have examined the lives of dogs and their curre…nt place in our societies as well as their crucial part in human life and history. Data and hypotheses have progressively increased, sometimes controversially, in each field of investigation. The domestication of dogs and its success during prehistory is a fascinating theme that scholars of various disciplines are involved with. However, there has not been a real exchange between those approaches and it is extremely complex to reach a complete view of the thousands of texts which are published every year. By contrast, this volume is entirely dedicated to dogs and it is focused on the necessity of an interdisciplinary perspective to fully understand the fundamental role that dogs have played in our past. When, where, how and why were dogs domesticated? What is their story? What was their role in the history of humankind? What is their role in traditional and non-traditional societies today? The book originated from the conference Dogs, Past and Present an Interdisciplinary Perspective held at CNR (National Scientific Council) and at Sapienza University in Rome (1417 November 2018), promoted by the Italian Association for Ethnoarchaeology and organised by the editors. This volume gathers contributions from scholars from a variety of disciplines to provide a comprehensive assessment of the importance of dogs through history. There is a focus on the necessity of an interdisciplinary perspective to fully understand the fundamental role that dogs have played in our past. Soft cover. Condition: New. 316 pages : illustrations ; 30 cm. Text in English, with five papers in French, and three papers in Italian; abstracts in English, French, and Italian. This volume is a collection of the contributions to the Ethnoarchaeology Conference ‘Ethnoarchaeology: Current Research and Field Methods’ o…rganized by the AIE-Onlus (Italian Society for Ethnoarchaeology) which was held in Rome in May 2010. Five different sessions were arranged: Ethnoarchaeology and Material Culture: Use, Function and Environmental Interaction; Ethnoarchaeology and Material Culture: Social Implications and Mental Patterns; Landscape Ethnoarchaeology: Interaction between Environment and Mechanisms of Choice; Ethnoarchaelogy and Pastoralism; Remote Sensing and Automatic Identification Techniques of the Archaeological Record; Ethnoarchaeology of Urban Environments. Different theoretical and methodological approaches were presented in the course of the Conference, testifying to the plurality of dimensions that traditionally characterize ethnoarchaeology.

Soft cover. Condition: New. 360 pages, 30cm. Italian and English with abstracts in Italian and English abstracts and title. The 4th National Ethnoarchaeology Meeting was held in Rome from the 17th-19th of May 2006. The meeting princAally focused on the formation of archaeological sites in their multAle aspects: domestic work, cr…aft activities, the conduct of social and ritual activities that lead to the formation of sediment and debris object, which are typically involved in post-depositional processes of variable complexity. Also considered were those behaviors which, although clearly observable in living cultural environments, do not leave traces in the soil or on other materials and therefore are not recognized and diagnosed. This book presents forty papers from five of the sessions held at the meeting. The five sessions are: 1) Formative processes - production facilities. Working and processing of materials; 2) Formative processes – structures; 3) Formative processes - territorial strategies; 4) Formative processes - symbols and rituals; 5) Formative processes - urban realities.
