Contact seller4-star sellerSoft cover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good Dust Jacket. HOL 039451 This is a paperback publication of the account, written after the war, of a Polish-Jewish teenage girl who survived the Nazi concentration camps. The book itself is clean and tight though there is clear tape neatly and almost invisibly applied to the spine. Unusually, there is dust jacket which has the same cover photo of Jews being marched down a street by Nazis as the book itself. The white dust jacket has some soiling and has maybe 10 short tears along the edges and one larger tear at the top of the spine which went through the authors name. We have put the jacket in a clear Brodart sleeve to protect it from further damage and hold it together. This copy was distributed by Twayne Publishers though the date is unclear. The book was originally written in 1964-65, published in Polish in Warsaw in 1967 but this copy has a 1971 copyright by the author and a Library of Congress catalog number that begins with 1977.…

Very Good in Dustjacket. 480 pages. hardcover. keywords: Literary Criticism Poland. DESCRIPTION - This anthology of modern fiction and poetry fulfills the need for a comprehensive introduction to the Polish literature of the last seven decades. The book brings to the American reader a rich tapestry of Polish life through representative selections, many of them never before translated into English. A short historical sketch of Polish literature from its beginning to the present time precedes the text, and brief biographical notes about the authors introduce the selections. No distinction has been drawn between writers now living in Poland and those who live abroad, nor postwar or prewar, for they all reveal a passionate sense of nationality, a preoccupation with the Polish experience of exile and oppression, and the Poles' love of freedom no less than their prejudices. The authors included in this anthology range from famous Nobel prize winners (Wladyslaw Reymont, Henryk Sienkiewicz) to controversial younger men (Marek Hlasko, Czeslaw Milosz, Adam Wazyk); from established great masters of prose (Eliza Orzeszkowa, Boleslaw Prus, Stefan Zeromski) to contemporary and experimental writers (Bruno Schulz, Witold Gombrowicz); from renowned poets (Jan Kasprowicz, Julian Tuwim. Kazimierz Wierzynski) to those recently published (Tadeusz Rozewicz, Zbigniew Herbert). Both the student of Polish literature and the general reader will find these selections re- warding and a timely tribute to the millennium of Poland's unbroken continuity as a nation. inventory #15372.…
