Mathematics for Technical Students ? Part One (1952) is a proper, no-nonsense textbook from Longmans, written for the slide-rule generation. This isn?t ?maths for personal growth? or ?numeracy for the mildly curious? This is: you?re going into engineering, lad/lass, better get your trigonometry in order . What sort of beast is this? Part One ? which, in classic 1950s fashion, assumes you?ll obediently progress to Part Two and possibly never escape. Written by A. Geary, H. V. Lowry and H. A. Hayden , a trio who clearly believed that what technical students needed most was less comfort and more algebra. Published by Longmans , back when textbook publishers expected students to own a single book for years, annotate it in fountain pen and never complain about the lack of cartoons. Inside you can reasonably expect: pages of carefully graded examples , equations that mean business , and the sort of diagrams that look harmless until you?re asked to calculate something involving angles, forces and ?take moments about point A? Condition: Good (and not in the modern estate-agent sense) ?Good? here means: The book is solidly bound and fully readable , not an exercise in loose-leaf chaos. There will be some ageing, shelfwear, and general patina of academic effort ? maybe some pencilled answers, perhaps a faint ring where a mug once stood guard during revision.
